Meet the band!

Chandani (Ginger Loverde)

After falling in love with the passion of Middle Eastern music and dance, she picked up her clarinet after many years of hibernation. Her drive has kept the band going, in one way or another, since our beginnings in 1999.

Sabah (Pat Loverde)

He brings two decades of string experience to Peach Curry, having played acoustic and electric guitar with various bands ranging from folk rock to contra music. Sabah plays a Persian tar and a Turkish baglama saz. Both are light, long-necked string instruments.

Kamuran (Rick Wallace)

He plays percussion, guiding the pulse of our music. Kamuran has over 20 years of music experience as a choral vocalist - nearly half of that time was in one of Apsara's groups - and in performance you might hear him singing along with her. He runs this Web site you're currently enjoying, has a guide for doumbek players on his personal site, and came up with the name for the band.

Apsara (Christy Seelye-King)

She is a professional entertainer with musical and vocal training that once almost took her to Italy to study opera. Instead, she has traveled on a path for over 25 years that has included many varied entertainment venues. As a singer and past director of a madrigal/folk a capella group, she has experience singing in many different languages - which comes in very handy when having to learn 16th century Turkish in one week!

Tariq (Jeff Jones)

He comes to Peach Curry with 20-odd years of musical experience in bands, orchestras, and small ensembles. Tariq adds a wide range of colors to our tonal palette with the flute, clarinet, recorders, saxophone, and other assorted instruments - which sounds really great until you have to carry them all to a performance!

Members Emeritus

Former members of Peach Curry.

Johara (Darcy Beth)

"She brought her body and soul to the call of the drums." In other words, she danced for us! She ALWAYS brought smiles to us all.

Javaria (Jeanette Landin)

She brought the "melodic and soulful sound of the violin" to the band. Kamuran taught her how to drum and she ended up marrying the other drummer! The rest of us played at their wedding, too! She was instrumental in the production of the first edition of the booklet that went with Dancing With the Infidels.

Haaziq (Chris Landin)

He demonstrated to all observers, by mimicking the motions of the mounted, scimitar-wielding warrior, that dance can be a display of masculinity and strength. Haaziq also played drums, claves, castanets, and other percussion instruments. He and Javaria now live many miles away.

Sherifa

Her departure ended a rich chapter in our history. Her music and her dance, her perseverance, and her creativity will always be an inspiration to us. She provided us with many resources on the culture and music of the Middle East. Sherifa customized her hammered dulcimer to mimic the santoor, an ancient Persian instrument.

Bashshar

He played guitar, 'ud, trumpet, and recorder. He also did the cartoons/illustrations for the booklet that accompanies our CD, Dancing With the Infidels.

Zarina

She played the oboe and provided extra percussion whenever needed.
On "DWI", her solo starts the first track, "Sepastia Bar".
