Band news from 2003

Mar 2003: Gulf Coast Renaissance Faire - Pensacola, FL
Five shows in two days, 350 miles from home, eating cheap food in the van, setting up in the rain, and getting back home around midnight on Sunday. A small taste of Life on the Road, but it's all worth it when the folks applaud and bounce and clap along with your music. We were accompanied by some of our dancing friends from the Zuri Middle Eastern Dance Troupe (Mobile AL), a local troupe called Saraab (Pensacola FL), Juanita, and Tanya (FWB FL). Next to us was Labyrinthe - they were a lot of fun and played some really neat music!
Mar 2003: STRATAPHILIA - Atlanta, GA
This was an art gallery exhibition at Georgia State University, "The Concrete Campus". We played at the reception party on the closing night. The artist/hostess provided delicious food and drink to all who attended. We played three long sets with the accompaniment of - Saroya and Nyssa (see pictures of them elsewhere on this site), and a new guest dancer, Liora.
May 2003: EarthLink Live - Atlanta, GA
We were the opening act for a fabulous band called DIVAHN. See them if you get the chance. Our music was again enhanced by the lively dancing of Saroya, Nyssa, and Liora.

Talking before the show, we learned that Divahn also has Üsküdar in their repertoire, though they do a much different version - faster tempo, different rhythm, has a drum solo, and sung in Hebrew!

So, after some impromptu arrangements ... "Oh that would be cool! How do we want to work this?" ... about midway through their show, we were invited back on stage. Divahn did the first part of their version, then we sang the Turkish lyrics, then Tariq did a flute solo, then we sang the Turkish lyrics again as a descant to their second part. Thanks again, Divahn!
Dec 2003: Nicola's Restaurant - Atlanta, GA
At this cozy restaurant that dishes up Lebanaese cuisine, we played at a special show that featured a roomful of local student dancers, as well as our friends Saroya, Nyssa, and Liora. The middle part of the show featured Saroya's husband on guitar with a Flamenco dancer! The food is great and Nicola, he's "on top of the world" and loves to get into the dancing himself.
